Research indicates that audiences relate more to the TV programmes
than the channels that show them. However, there are also a
considerable number of web search tasks via bbc.co.uk that seek
individual channel brands.
BBC One and BBC Two at this stage
still had no portal to facilitate these user tasks. Its marketing
departments had no dedicated online platform to promote its programming
and identity.
We collected existing research into the channel brands and audience
insights to help visual and typographic treatment of the portals.
To help distinguish the voice of BBC One and BBC Two, we also incorporated audience research for BBC Four and BBC Three.
Going through a very rapid and iterative process, our portals were constructed based mainly on feeds with a promotional area to reflect the marketing focus. We also simplified and helped to create a listings service for one of the main identified user tasks - "Tonight at a glance"
